Due to advances in scientific knowledge, higher resolution raw data, stringent air quality standards, and constantly changing regulations, environmental modeling is demanding more and more from EHS professionals and their computers. All of these influences have resulted in significantly longer AERMOD model run times as compared to the predecessor regulatory model, ISCST. Instead of minutes, AERMOD runtimes for large projects can take days and terrain data file sizes routinely exceed 100 MB. To address the issue of increased runtimes, BREEZE Software offers a number of options to modelers to increase productivity while managing model complexity.

The type of modeling analysis you are conducting will determine if you are interested in the highest offsite or onsite pollutant concentrations. For example, if you are modeling to show compliance with the U.S. EPA National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS), you will be interested in the concentrations that occur offsite, whereas if you want to show compliance with OSHA regulations you will be interested in onsite impacts.
BREEZE AERMOD offers useful tools to assist users in easily removing onsite or offsite receptors so that the concentration results shown are specific to the area of interest for your modeling analysis.

Receptors are specific locations, set up in air quality dispersion models, where ambient concentration estimates or deposition values are needed. If the model is being used to conduct an air quality analysis for regulatory purposes, it is important to identify the extent and frequency of the highest concentrations for the averaging time. Because the model run time increases with the number of receptors added, however, finding the highest concentrations can be a tricky process. If too many receptors are added, then the model could take a long time to run, but if too few receptors are added, then the highest concentrations may be missed altogether. To provide assistance, there are tools available within BREEZE AERMOD that ease the process of identifying the highest concentrations while also minimizing the model runtime.
